4Ground Regular Wooden Outhouse

I have added one of the 4Ground Regular Wooden Outhouses to my collection.  The construction is very similar to the Wooden WC I built previously only somewhat larger.  Again the construction was quite simple and the building can be made in either a complete or damaged state.

Marston Moor Battlefield

Taking only a slight detour on our way from York to Harrogate I managed to get to see Marston Moor, site of the battle of the same name in 1644 during the English Civil War.  Although given that a large part of the Parliamentarian force was the Scots army ECW seems a somewhat inaccurate term.

As with Towton, which I visited earlier, Marston Moor has a monument and a board with an overview of the battle; however, it's clearly a poor relative when compared to its Wars of the Roses cousin with no battlefield trail or further educational material.

Whilst there is less material at the site it is fields and so you can get something of a feel for the terrain and it is worth a visit if you are interested in the period.

Hang 'Em High Gallows

I bought a gallows from Battle Flag to add to my collection (not long before 4Ground produced theirs - although this one can only handle a single hanging at a time!).  Here are some photos of the almost finished item (I need to sort out the noose - the "rope" is included:

The kit was easy to assemble - I only needed to texture and paint the base (as this comes in plain MDF) - it's a little more fiddly than some of the 4Ground kits but not significantly so.  The kit is not pre-painted but I think the natural MDF works fine.

Towton Battlefield

We went on a trip up to York for a couple of days so I made sure that our route passed through at least a couple of the area's battlefields.  On the way there it was the site of the Battle of Towton in 1461 one of the bloodiest battles in England during the Wars of the Roses.

It was a very different day to the day of the battle, we had bright sunshine and high temperatures whilst on Palm Sunday in 1461 it was snowy and somewhat colder!

The battlefield and the surrounding area are given over to farm land and given the often poor recognition of the history of some battlefields I was impressed that Towton has display boards and a battlefield trail that you can walk.

Montrose Himself!

And to lead the Royalist forces, none other than the Marquis of Montrose:

The figures are once again from Redoubt but the flag is a modified version of one from The Inevitable Spark blog.

Scots Dragoons

Apologies for the lack of posts recently - I have been up to my neck in work.  Here are a couple of photos of two Scots Dragoons that I finished basing recently:

The figures are 28mm from Redoubt.

I am hoping that I will get some more basing done this weekend - so watch this space!
